Here are just a few things that I've learned to speed up your computer a bit. An easiest way to do this is to lower all your graphic settings.
Right click on your Desktop, go to properties, on the Theme tab click on the drop down menu and select Windows Classic. Now click on the Appearance tab and click on the button Effects, uncheck everything in here except "Hide underlined Letters for Keyboard shortcuts". Click Ok. Now click on the Settings tab and change your color mode to 16-bit. Click Ok.
Go to the Control Panel and open System, click on the Advanced tab and in the Performance box click the Settings button then check "Adjust for best performance", click Ok and Ok again.
Open My Computer, go to Tools then Folder Options, in the Tasks box click "use Windows classic folders" click Ok
Those are just a few performance tips I've learned.
